Yes it is legal to own a Zebra rug as long as it is a Burchell Zebra also known as Plains Zebra.
Burchell’s Zebra skins is 100% legal. Burchell’s Zebra are classified as a non-cites animal (non-endangered) and are listed by the IUCN as of “Least Concern”.
We Provide those documents for customs and have never had a issue in over 25 years of business.
A Zebra skin rug can be cleaned by wiping it with a clean, water dampened cloth but should NEVER be soaked in water. Under no circumstance should a zebra skin be machine washed, tumble dried or dry cleaned.
Rugs can be damaged by being exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. It is preferable to keep an animal skin in a room with less exposure to direct sunlight.

Felt backing is the black material similar to that of a pool table but its glued to the back of the Zebra hide.
Other than the obvious aesthetic appeal, a black felt backing increases the durability and longevity of a Zebra skin. We use only the best felt on the market.
We are taught from a young age that Zebra’s are black and white. This is not the case for most Zebra’s
The hides we get in are are dark chocolate brown/black stripes with beige /cream / whitish shading between the stripes.

We are based in Cape Town, South Africa and surrounded by local game farms, both government owned and privately owned.
We source hides directly from these game farms and get the hides tanned. We are able to reduce the cost on a Zebra hide as we do not work through a middleman, we are the suppliers from start to finish.
A-grade Zebra hides are considered the best with almost very few imperfections. They full hides with good patterns and coloring . A grade hides (best sellers) have minor markings that are not easy to notice from a distance.
B-grade zebra hides are still good full hides with a few natural scars.
